JDF Climate resilience project

The JDF Climate Resilience Project aims to drive long-term behavioral change towards responsible consumption, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable lifestyles. This initiative works through various programs, events, campaigns, and community engagement activities to foster a culture of sustainability.

Project Overview:

This project is a collaborative effort between the JDF Center for Climate Change & Environment Protection (CCCEP) and the School of Sustainability (SOS) under JDF. Launching on World Environment Day, June 5, 2025, the JDF Climate Resilience Project will begin as a pilot in Bihar, with plans to expand nationwide based on initial results.

The Urgency of Our Project

Climate change is no longer a distant threat. it’s a present reality affecting millions. Here are some alarming facts that highlight the critical need for behavioral change:

Food Waste
Roughly 1/3 of all food produced worldwide—around 1.3 billion tons—is lost or wasted each year. This waste generates approximately 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. If food waste were a country, it would be the third-largest emitter after the U.S. and China.
Hunger and Malnutrition
Despite this waste, nearly 828 million people worldwide go to bed hungry every night, according to recent World Hunger data. Food wastage not only fuels climate change but also exacerbates global hunger and resource shortages.
Irresponsible Consumption
The global consumption pattern has led to unprecedented resource depletion. Studies reveal that 60% of global biodiversity loss is linked to the food industry, mainly due to deforestation, land degradation, and excessive water use.
