The Agricultural Guidance for Sustainable Farming (AGSF) program is a flagship initiative under the Farmer Welfare Project of the Jeevan Darshan Foundation (JDF). Launched in collaboration with the Center for Agriculture & Rural Development (CARD) and the School of Sustainability (SOS), AGSF is dedicated to empowering farmers with knowledge and tools for sustainable agriculture in India.
Our Goal-
AGSF aims to reach 50,000 farmers across India within the next five years, providing practical guidance and resources for sustainable farming practices that protect the environment, enhance productivity, and improve farmers' livelihoods.
Why We have Started?
- Soil Degradation: Over 60% of India's agricultural soil faces depletion due to excessive chemical use and unsustainable practices.
- Water Scarcity: Agriculture accounts for 80% of freshwater use in India, with inefficient irrigation leading to wastage.
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Agriculture contributes nearly 18% of India's total GHG emissions, mainly from methane released by livestock and rice paddies.
- Deforestation: Expanding farmland leads to deforestation, reducing biodiversity and increasing carbon emissions.
- Pollution: Excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides contaminates soil, water bodies, and harms aquatic life.
- Biodiversity Loss: Monocropping and habitat destruction reduce species diversity, affecting ecosystem balance.
Key Highlights of AGSF
- Sustainable Farming Practices: Training farmers on eco-friendly practices such as crop rotation, organic farming, water conservation, and pest management.
- Expert Support: Access to agricultural experts for personalized guidance and real-time problem-solving.
- Advanced Tools & Techniques: Introducing innovative tools and technologies to improve farming efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
- Community Engagement: Building a strong network of farmers to share knowledge and experiences for collective growth.
Why AGSF Matters?
- Environmental Impact: Promotes eco-friendly farming methods to combat soil degradation and water scarcity.
- Economic Benefits: Helps farmers increase yield and reduce input costs through sustainable practices.
- Targeted Outreach: Starting in Bihar, AGSF focuses on regions that need the most support, gradually expanding to other states.
